OUR STORY

Perched high on the bluff since 1961, Timmerman’s Supper Club has been a Dubuque-area favorite for generations. It all began with the unforgettable Helen Timmerman, whose life was anything but ordinary.

Born Helen Ihm, she was one of 13 children, joined the Black Franciscan Order at 16, became a teacher, and eventually traded chalkboards for cocktail menus. Helen honed her hospitality skills at The Chateau Supper Club—then a hotspot for big-name acts like Count Basie and the Paul Hemmer Orchestra.

After a short stint running a bar in Happy Corners, WI, she returned home to open Timmerman’s. Her vision was clear: timeless elegance. She wore gowns every evening, expected guests to enjoy a proper drink before dinner, and had zero tolerance for poor manners or sloppy attire.

Today, Timmerman’s is owned by the Schuetz family, who also operate Louisburg Junction Supper Club in Cuba City, WI. With deep roots in the supper club tradition, they continue to deliver the fine dining experience Helen insisted on—classic, elevated, and unforgettable.
